Thesis on post-disaster planning

Hello,

I am currently undertaking a thesis project as part of my final year of studies within the Town Planning program at the University of New South Wales. I am writing to ask if anyone from your community would be willing to contribute to

my research, as I believe that the residents here would have a great deal of knowledge and recent experience in my area of study.

The thesis is looking into post-disaster planning processes, with a main focus on rebuilding following major bushfire disasters. The thesis argues that a better balance could be achieved between the strict application of redevelopment regulations which aim at preventing future recurrences of the disaster, and the fast-tracking of applications in order to allow the affected community to move back to their former habitation. The research looks into the barriers faced by planners and residents, procedures implemented to assist in the reconstruction process, and other factors which affect the recovery process of devastated communities.

I would like to understand how effective the post disaster reconstruction procedures and policies were (and are) from the perspective of residents or builders/developers in the area.

If anyone is interested in participating, please feel free to pass on my email address, and I am more than happy to speak with anyone who feels they would like to have an input. I cannot offer any remuneration for participants, however anyone who participates will be sent an electronic copy of the final report.

Participants can remain anonymous if they please, and full privacy and confidentiality details will be provided.

Thankyou in advance,
